The Mercer Island Band Program has garnered numerous awards, achievements, and the honor of performing at national and international venues.

Performances

Mercer Island Bands have been invited to perform at venues across the world:

  • Invited performer, Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade 2023

  • Featured performer at Seattle Seahawks football games including 2019,  2021

  • Invited to perform at the Boeing Classic Golf Tournament 2019

  • Jazz Ensemble performed with Tia Fuller at Jazz Alley 2019

  • Invited performer, Tournament of Roses Parade; Pasadena, California 1993, 2006, 2012, 2019 

  • Invited performer at the Australian National Band Championships 2015

  • Invited performer 2010 WMEA State Convention

  • Invited participant in the London New Year’s Day Parade 2011

  • Completed a successful ten day cultural and musical exchange in China during 2008

  • Invited to perform at Sugar Bowl; New Orleans, Louisiana 1991

  • Performed with world-class musicians such as Wycliffe Gordon, Hummie Mann, and Allen Vizzutti.

  • Invited performer at the 2009 MLS Cup

Awards and Achievements

  • Awarded the Tournament of Roses Michael D. Sewell Service Through Music Award 2019

  • Recognized as part of the Proceedings and Debates of the 112th Congress as a band that is “…respected and admired around the world.”

  • Selected as one of 50 Grammy Signature Schools in recognition for exceptional achievement in arts education 1998-99 and 2002-03

  • 1st place awards at Jazz Northwest, Bellevue Jazz Festival, Clark College Jazz Festival, Newport Jazz Festival, and Sweepstakes award at Newport Jazz Festival and Jazz Northwest.

  • Selected the last 6 years for KPLU’s “School of Jazz Project”

  • 12 State Solo Ensemble winners in the last 5 years

  • Superior Ratings at national festivals including the Dixie Classic Invitational in Washington D.C. and the Heritage Concert Band Festival in Chicago. IL

  • Consistent superior ratings in local and regional festivals

  • Over 50 students selected to participate in the All-State and All Northwest honor ensembles during the last 5 years

  • 4 Students Selected to the National Wind Ensemble under the direction of H. Robert Reynolds

  • 3 time WIAA Academic Champions
